Graveyard Cupcakes

I realize I've been MIA. My excuse? Vacation and getting sick. But hopefully it's back to your regularly scheduled food blog as we're back and I'm feeling better!

I made these for our Pumpkin Carving Party. They were a big hit and everyone seemed to love them!

1 box chocolate cake mix
1 can of frosting
12 Milano Cookies
Chocolate sandwich cookies
Food color gels for tinting icing (optional)
Gel decorating tube

Prepare cupcakes according to the box instructions. Should make about 24 chocolate cupcakes.

Take 1/2 of the frosting and tint it one color with the color gels and tint the rest another color. You could also just use one color for all of them.

In a blender or food processor grind chocolate sandwich cookies down until no chucks are left and they look like dirt.

Take the milano cookies and cut them in half with a knife. We used the double chocolate cookies and they were so yum! With the gel tube decorate the cookies with RIP or names or crosses to resemble tombstones.

Once the cupcakes are completely cool add the frosting to them. Push in one tombstone per cupcake and sprinkle on a mound of the dirt with a spoon. I also added gummi-worms to the top but they aren't pictured.

You can arrange the cupcakes in a dish or pan and sprinkle leftover dirt around them for an added effect. Decorations can be whatever you like, I used candy pumpkins.
